Virtual Mentoring

Meet virtually with Lee Kiefer or Gerek Meinhardt for one-on-one coaching and suggestions to level up your fencing.

Sessions are 30 minutes over video call that include tactical advice as well more general advice such as bout strategy, keeping cool under pressure, and optimizing practice. They take on one of three formats:

  1. Fencer uploads one of their videos (typically have time for a 15-point bout or a few 5-point bouts) for mentor to review before the session. During the session, fencer and mentor watch and discuss the video together, highlighting areas for improvement and discussing ideas to apply at practice and future competition. Mentor will send notes on the bout and main takeaways following the session.

  2. Mentor selects a high-level international bout to review together and identify takeaways and best practices to apply to fencer’s game.

  3. Fencer and mentor have a Q&A to talk about fencing and get advice or ideas on a range of topics.

With many of our clients that we regularly work with once every month or two, we do a combination of the above. If you decide that this is something you would like for your fencer and book a multiple-session package, you can decide the format on a session-by-session basis. Thank you for letting us be a part of your fencing journey!

We do hope to add more accessible group classes and other mentoring formats so stay tuned!

Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of videos should I upload?

A tournament video would be best, but videos from practice also work. We typically have time to review one 15-point bout or three 5-point bouts, so we leave plenty of time for discussion.

If I book multiple sessions, are they all during the same period or can I upload more videos in the future? How does it work?

When you book a 3-session package, we will schedule a time for the first session and send a link for you to upload the video(s) for that session. We generally recommend waiting at least a month between sessions so your fencer has time to work on our advice at practice and/or competition. When the next month (or whatever time frame you would like) approaches, we will reach back out to set a time for the next session and send a new link to upload video(s) for that session.

Can I record the session?

We do not permit session recordings, but are happy to pose for screenshots together at any point during the session.

How should I prepare for the session?

Please come prepared with questions! We also recommend that fencers bring a notebook to the session to record feedback and ideas. We will also send our own notes following the session.
